🌈 What We Teach
SpiritSchool introduces Unity’s Five Basic Principles in a child-friendly way:
  1. God is all good and active in everything, everywhere.

  2. I am naturally good because God's divinity is in me and in everyone.

  3. I create my experiences by what I choose to think and feel.

  4. Through affirmative prayer and meditation, I connect with God and bring out the good in my life.

  5. I do and give my best by living the truth I know. I make a difference.

Our curriculum includes affirmations, metaphysical Bible stories, contemporary children's literature, and songs, all designed to reinforce these principles and remind children of their inherent goodness and the presence of God within and around them.

🌟 What Is SpiritSchool?
SpiritSchool is Unity Village Chapel’s Youth & Family Ministry, offering age-appropriate spiritual education for infants through teens.

It’s a sacred, inclusive space where children and youth explore their divine nature, build spiritual confidence, and learn to live with compassion, mindfulness, and purpose.

Whether through storytelling, music, meditation, or creative expression, SpiritSchool nurtures the light in each child and supports families in raising spiritually grounded, empowered young people.

🧘‍♀️ Our Spiritual Focus & Approach
SpiritSchool is based on Unity’s Five Basic Principles, presented in ways that children and teens can understand, embody, and apply.

We guide youth to connect with the Divine within, practice affirmative prayer, and understand that their thoughts and actions create their life experience.

We focus on:

  • Spiritual empowerment over religious dogma

  • Inclusive language that honors all paths to the Divine

  • Experiential learning through creativity, play, music, meditation, and discussion

  • Positive affirmation and emotional intelligence

  • A safe, welcoming environment where every child is seen, valued, and supported

Through SpiritSchool, young people discover their own spiritual path, deepen their relationship with God (by whatever name they choose), and develop tools to create lives of peace, joy, and purpose.

We utilize the Unity curriculum All Together Now
Since God is not a being, entity or person, God cannot judge, punish, withhold our good or teach us lessons. God is simply the name we give to the unnameable essence of Absolute Good, Infinite Wisdom, Divine Love. The words and images describing God are merely metaphors, trying to describe the indescribable, pointing to the mystery beyond our human understanding.

However, in talking with children about God, we sometimes use language that infers that God is outside of us or that God is doing "to us" instead of existing "as us." Concrete thinkers, such as children, may construct a mental picture of God as a separate being, made in our image - a cosmic Santa Clause. This concept, once cemented in the hard drive of the mind, is difficult to "un-think" later in their spiritual development. While we don't want to teach children about God being a separate entity, at the same time, we want them to commune with the God of their Being and experience the comforting, loving, guiding presence of Spirit in a personal way.

Since words can actually inhibit our understanding, our focus can shift to using simple, clear language while helping our children have a personal experience of God - feeling the comfort and unconditional love of God, listening for and hearing God's wisdom and guidance, looking for and finding God reflected in every pair of eyes looking back at them.

The youth classrooms are located in the UVC CommUnity Space, Building 400, Room 228 (which is where the children will be picked up and signed out).

The Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.) is a youth group for teens ages 14-18 (grades 8-12) to connect with like-minded friends and learn practical spiritual tools.

They will explore Unity's 5 basic principles, the 12 Powers of Unity, and other truth teachings -- so they learn how to use these metaphysical principles and qualities within, among others, and in daily living. It is truly a life-long gift to learn positive, practical spirituality.

We strive to express loving, spiritual fellowship with our group, our spiritual community, and the communities in which we live. We incorporate community involvement through aluminum can recycling, service projects, and other creative projects throughout the year. In Summer 2017, at the Y.O.U. Summer Conference, teens from across the country gathered for a spiritual retreat at Unity Village and helped create a mural in the tunnel by Banquet & Dining.

Our commitment to the safety and security of our beloveds is an upmost priority and we continue to integrate the highest standards of intentional interaction with the youth.  Our hardworking and decided team not only care for the spiritual needs of the youth but also commit to maintain a safe and secure environment.

The UVC staff, Board of Trustees and Youth & Family team undergo mandatory Sacred Safety Training annually to reorient ourselves with latest procedures and best practices.  Our training in based around the highest quality standard program, "Reducing The Risk", specifically designed for congregational environments.

Every adult working with the youth must undergo a background check, screening interviews and extensive training.
